Turbo & Wastegate Blanket Selection Guide
Technical Information & Buying Guide
Turbo and wastegate blankets are used to contain radiant heat around turbine housings and external wastegates. Reducing radiant heat can help protect nearby wiring, hoses, bodywork and intake components in tightly packaged engine bays.
The blanket must be correctly sized for the specific housing or wastegate and installed without obstructing linkages, ports, clamps or oil and water connections. Blankets operate in an extreme environment and should be inspected regularly for deterioration, contamination or damage. Oil or fuel leaks must be repaired immediately rather than concealed by heat protection.
- Match the blanket to the specific turbo or wastegate size
- Keep moving parts, fittings and control ports unobstructed
- Inspect regularly and address all fluid leaks promptly
FAQ
- What is the purpose of a turbo blanket?
It helps contain radiant heat from the turbine housing and reduce heat exposure to surrounding components.
- Will a turbo blanket make more horsepower?
It should primarily be viewed as a heat-management product. Any performance effect depends on the complete installation and should not be assumed.
- Can a blanket be installed over an oil leak?
No. Any oil, fuel or coolant leak must be repaired before fitting or continuing to use a heat blanket.
